Happy Sign Surprise is an original lawn greeting company in Charlotte and Greensboro North Carolina. We began surprising Charlotte area neighbors in 2011, long before the common industry name “yard card” was established. It all began one day when owner Jaime Volturno saw a flock of flamingo lawn ornaments in her neighbor’s yard to celebrate a milestone birthday. From that point on, we have been inspired to “Make Someone’s Day” by creating unique, surprise yard sign displays for any occasion. In 2016, one of our biggest fans decided to join in the fun by bringing the concept to Greensboro. Since then, thousands of Greensboro area residents have woken up to a festive yard sign surprise created by Emily Thompson and family.
Happy Sign Surprise is a local family-owned and operated business and we truly enjoy spreading cheer across the community. Even our youngest members are actively involved! Our children have assisted with everything from processing orders to preparing signs for delivery and even helping with sign installations! The youngest member of our Greensboro family, Charlie, was only 9 years old and made the local news for creating positive sign messages in his yard to raise the spirits of others during the difficult days of pandemic lockdowns. Neighbors looked forward to reading Charlie’s encouraging message of the day each day.

The Covid-19 pandemic gave us an opportunity to spread even more joy as the world became locked down. Suddenly people were in search of finding new ways to celebrate special occasions intimately. Drive-by birthday parties and baby/bridal showers became a thing and the perfect outdoor party décor proved to be themed yard signs! As a result the yard card industry grew tremendously, which brought more local competition. While some of those pop-up businesses rode the temporary pandemic wave, we continue to value our loyal customers and enjoy celebrating with you year after year.
